Boat security
Dinghies, Boats and Yachts are all at risk from thieves, be it theft from the vessel or in some cases even the vessel itself can be stolen.
You should take the same precautions you would with your home, ensuring it is locked securely when you leave, that valuables are not left on display and that visual deterrents have been employed.
Are you an easy target?
Don`t leave items on display like
- Mobile Phones
- Laptops
- Keys
- Jewellery
- Wallets
- Ipods
- Cameras
- GPS Hardware
- Technical Clothing
Don`t leave keys in the ignition.
Separate your engine keys from your boat keys to reduce the risk of having your boat stolen (they may have intended to steal from the boat, but if they find all the keys, it will be the boat itself that gets stolen!)
Use large padlocks and hinges as visual deterrents - if the boat looks well secured, then potential thieves will walk on by.
Improve security
Try to review the security of your boat every year, that way you minimise the risk of theft. If you have an alarm, make sure you have a visible sticker.
Ensure that your hatch is secure and the wood is still strong. Also check windows for any deterioration that could make the frames easy to break open.
